Widow’s Bay season 1 episode 8: Could more flashbacks happen?

Through its first seven episodes on Apple TV, it is easy to say one thing about Widow’s Bay — this is not a show afraid of big swings. It will take risks with its storytelling, whether that be trippy sequences, flashbacks, or characters who are as unreliable as unreliable can be.

Episode 6 was largely a standout in how almost all of it was set centuries ago, and allowed us to see a direct window into Richard and some of his actions. It proved to be beyond informative, but it also pushed forward this interesting question: Is the town cured of its apparent curse because he is gone? Can Wyck and Tom celebrate as much as they have?

While we cannot speak to whether or not we are going to get more flashback episodes this season, there is absolutely a way that the series could deliver more down the road — just introduce someone else who made a deal with the entity in a way that is similar to Richard. There is a lot of documented history in the town, but does that mean everything? Who is to say that there is not someone else with evil intentions floating around? This is where you could keep another mystery going and shift it to the present.

What we are ultimately getting to here is rather simple: There is a good chance that a lot of the celebrations we are getting at this point are a tad premature. There are still three episodes left, and that introduces the possibility of a lot of chaos moving forward. That is without even considering the chances of a season 2, which do still feel very-much real based on how the show is performing so far.
