Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 5: Behind the ‘betrayal’

As we prepare to see Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 5 down the road, it feels fair to say that there is a lot of suffering across the board. Beth and Rip are mourning the loss of their herd, while also likely questioning where they go from here. This as meant to help them stand out among other beef producers and now, they are starting from scratch all over again.
To make matters worse for them, do they even have Carter on their side? Finn Little’s character is a huge part of the show, but in episode 4, we saw him sneak off from school and work at another ranch instead.

Is this a relationship that can be repaired in time? Most likely yes but at the same time, it may not happen overnight. Speaking to People Magazine, Little explains why his character feels so hurt by Beth and Rip not including him in the decision to kill the herd:
“Beth and Rip are, in a way, molding him to try to become the next person to run the ranch. They want him to become a strong young man, strong cowboy … To be left out of a decision like that, I think, hurt him quite a bit. And that will be a big factor [in] Carter trying to claim his own independence this season.”
We are sure that to a lot of older Dutton Ranch viewers, it is easy to be frustrated with Carter. Some of what he is feeling right now is grounded in a sense of immaturity, and not quite understanding that Beth and Rip were trying to protect him from something traumatic. He wants to take everything on at once, and they want to bring him along slowly. In time, he could start to understand a little bit more.
