Hacks season 6: Why isn’t it happening at HBO Max?

Following the end of Hacks season 5 today on HBO Max, there are more questions to wonder when it comes to a season 6. In particular, let’s start with this: Why aren’t we getting it?

Certainly, we do not have to tell anyone out there that we would love nothing more than to see the Jean Smart series continue forever. However, at the same exact time, all shows must end and for streaming, five or six seasons tends to be as far as they often go. The good news here is simply that this was designed to be the end and with that, nothing is going to end abruptly.

We recognize that there are worlds in which you could see a Hacks continuation in some shape or form, whether it be a spin-off or a revival. However, we tend to think that the more likely situation long-term here is that the powers-that-be simply move forward and start up some work on some other projects instead. That allows them to create a brand-new tapestry and from where we sit, that is easily the most exciting.

The great thing about this show in general is that despite all of its success, we do still believe that there are going to be a lot of viewers who discover it looking forward multiple years into the future. There is just so much programming on the air these days and because of that simple fact alone, it is almost impossible for everyone to be able to watch all of these shows while they were on.

For now, let’s just pay a tribute to what has been one of the best comedy projects TV has had to offer over the past several years. There is, after all, a reason for all of its regular Emmy love.
