Criminal Minds: Evolution season 19 premiere: Elias Voit’s new story
While there are many details still under lock and key heading into Criminal Minds: Evolution over on Paramount+, one thing is still clear: This is an opportunity to explore more of the Elias Voit character.
Now, we have no problem admitting to our complete shock when we learned that Zach Gilford was going to be in more than just one season of the show. Now, that has evolved into him being in four! Every season of Evolution seems to be about bringing something new to the character and insofar as we can tell, we are not sure that is about to change.

Speaking to Bleeding Cool, showrunner Erica Messer teased up what Voit’s arc is going to look like this time around, especially as he inhabits a space that has some Hannibal Lecter similarities as he becomes a resource for information:
Yeah, we’ve really had such casting luck getting Zach to play Elias Voit in the first season of Evolution, and I think because of him and his performance, bringing that character to life is why he kept getting renewed every year since there was always more to tell. The fact that we…first, he’s like hiding and never even knew he existed, then he’s captured, and he knows something we don’t know. He then gets a traumatic brain injury and doesn’t even remember being the bad guy that we all know he is to this season, being locked up presumably for the rest of his days. He becomes this living resource that the BAU normally does interviews with and they try to pick their brain as much as possible, so it felt like a natural progression for that character. More importantly, for our characters to be up for these new challenges, dealing with somebody like that.
Now, even if Voit is a resource, there is still a question as to how much the BAU can trust him. This is someone who has done some absolutely terrible things and we’re sure that for some of them, they do not even want to think about him at this point.
