The premiere of America’s Got Talent season 21 is set to premiere on NBC in a little more than a week — so what will make it stand out?

From the outside looking in, we really just think that at this point in the show’s run, we really just want to be very-much surprised. We recognize that this is a hard thing to do, but we mean this in terms of not just the quality of the acts, but also the editing. So many things can be telegraphed with this show, including when Golden Buzzer acts are placed in the broadcast. Is there a way to change this at some point?

Well, at the very least, we can say that something remarkable happened in the audition process this season. Speaking to TV Insider ahead of the new season, judge Sofia Vergara noted that “for the first time in America’s Got Talent history, the talent has been so outstanding that we saw back-to-back Golden Buzzers. It’s a rare and thrilling milestone that reflects just how high the level of competition has become.”

Of course, we are going to see a good many singers over the course of the season — but beyond that? Our hope is that we are going to get some dancers, a few memorable magicians, and some legitimate contortionists / horror acts. These are the sort of talents that make AGT really stand out, as there is no other show that they can really migrate over to. In that sense, this is really a solitary platform for them. We have heard that there could be at least one new element this season after the auditions, so we are certainly eager to see what that could be and how it would shake up the show in its totality.
