Is NCIS new tonight on CBS? Make no mistake that of course, we are still eager to get a little bit more insight about the crime show’s future. After all, we had such a shocking conclusion to the most-recent installment of the series, one that introduced some jeopardy for not just Torres, but also McGee’s biological son Mateo.
It would be wonderful to be able to enter tonight anticipating some sort of answers … but it does not seem as though that is going to happen. There are no plans to get more of the show until at least late September, with the reason tied to “Sons and Daughters” being the season 23 finale. There is a ton of great stuff to be excited for regarding the future, but we will be stuck waiting a while in order to see it.

So what is the next touchstone related to NCIS to be excited about? At present, we would shift at least some attention right now over to around July, which is when we expect production on season 24 to kick off. It is also around that point where we should get a chance to see if there are any new additions to the team.
One thing that does feel clear at present is simple: The writers are not planning to give us some sort of de-facto replacement for Vance. While we could end up getting one still (there is a lot of time before filming kicks off), we do think that the plan is to creatively continuing to shake up the show and try new things. That could include a more adversarial boss down the road, but a lot of patience could be required here in order to see what some of the powers-that-be cook up.
