At this point, it does feel easy to say one thing about the NCIS season 23 finale cliffhanger: It is all sorts of epic. How can you not be excited for what is to come?

As most of you who watched the closing minutes of season 23 are aware, we are in this super-curious spot now with Torres and Mateo. Seemingly, one of them shot at the other, as McGee’s biological son is keeping some sort of secret about a world he’s been caught up in. This raises a lot of interesting questions and of course, we cannot wait to get some more answers. Thankfully, Sean Murray seems to feel the same way!

In a new interview with The Wrap, the longtime series regular shared his reaction to the finale, but also what it could mean for season 24:

I remember going up to one of our writers, who wrote this particular episode. I had heard some inklings as far as what was going to happen. I said, “I see at least three or four awesome ways this can go.” The fact that I’ve been here for 23 years and I’m super excited about this finale is like, I think it means we’re doing something right.

What does it do to Mateo? What does it do to Torres and McGee’s relationship? A lot of stuff’s at stake here. I like it.

We’ll certainly say that this season was one of Murray’s best in some time, largely because the material put McGee in some challenging spots. We know that he is a good person, but this season caused him to reflect on his past in some interesting ways. That ever-changing perspective could also have some great ripple effects moving forward.
