Dune: Prophecy season 2 premiere date: A longer wait ahead?

For most of this calendar year, we have moved forward with the idea that Dune: Prophecy season 2 could be arriving before 2026 ends. However, is some of that starting to change?

Well, for the time being, let’s just say that there is a reason for questions. Earlier today, the folks at HBO / HBO Max released a sizzle reel for some of their upcoming releases. There were a number of expected inclusions here, whether it be House of the Dragon, Lanterns, the upcoming Stuart-based The Big Bang Theory spin-off show, and many more. A surprise was seeing more of The Gilded Age, as we did not think we would be seeing more of it until next year.

Then, we get to Dune: Prophecy — or really, the lack thereof. There is no indication anymore that the prequel is coming back this year, and that makes us think that early 2027 may be more likely now for the eight-episode season. While production may be done, there are still reasons for the long wait here, including the simple fact that this is a huge show with a lot of post-production and visual effects. This is not a process that could be rushed.

If we are stuck waiting until the new year to see the second season arrive, that would mean that it will arrive on the other side of Dune: Part Three. The much-anticipated movie could actually end up drawing more attention to the show, but we may have to wait and see what the reception is there. We are just banking big at the moment based on the performance and the perception of the first couple of movies.
