Is Saturday Night Live new tonight on NBC? There is no denying that last week’s installment was epic for a number of different reasons. You had Will Ferrell returning to Studio 8H as the host and beyond that, multiple performances from a living legend in Sir Paul McCartney.

So where does the late-night show go from here? Is there any way to ever top what we have already seen?

Well, unfortunately this is where we all need to take a deep breath as we share some of the bad news: Saturday Night Live is off the air tonight. Not only that, but it is going to be off the air for a number of weeks. Last week was the season 51 finale and within that, we are now in a spot where we are entering a really long and particularly-brutal break. If we are lucky, the show will return either in late September or early October, and we could have a chance to hear more about the first host of the season a few weeks before that.

So what sort of news can you expect over the next few months? For starters, we do want to know if any cast members are leaving. After the rather massive exodus that happened after season 50 (and remember that Bowen Yang left midway through 51), our hope is that there is a little more stability. We do imagine that there are going to be some promotions of the featured players; in particular, Ashley Padilla has already cemented her place as one of the show’s up-and-coming stars, and we could see her becoming for this era what Kristen Wiig or Kate McKinnon were for their own.
