Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 3: Are Beth, Rip in big trouble?

We knew that at some point on Dutton Ranch season 1, we were going to see Beth and Rip thrown into a truly awful position. However, who thought it was going to come anywhere near this soon?

Ultimately, throughout episode 3 the two characters learned about a crisis facing them that could have devastating consequences: Foot and mouth disease. Despite being relatively rare in this part of the country, Everett was able to identify it and now, the problem becomes trying to contain the spread before it impacts all of the herd. Remember that the beef on the ranch is highly valued and in that way, the quality helps to compensate for the limited amount of product they could have. Even if both Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s character have some experience in the ranching world, they don’t have the connections of Beulah. Beth spent the bulk of this week’s installment in Dallas, working to do whatever she could in order to convince the restaurant industry to give her a chance.

Obviously, one big part of the story now has to be finding a way to keep this situation from getting worse. However, at the same time another part is figuring out how this happened in the first place. This is where it only feels right to be suspicious of the entire Jackson family, given the conversation we saw with Beth and Beulah alongside the fact that they clearly have a lot of people on their payroll — including some in the Sheriff’s department. Could the illness at the Dutton Ranch be a coincidence? Absolutely, but it is strange that all of this is happening so soon after these characters started interacting with each other.

One last thing to discuss at present: Did anyone else feel like the Carter storyline is being rushed to a shocking degree? How did we get to where we are already?
