Dutton Ranch season 1 episode 3 spoilers: Annette Bening’s tease

Annette Bening is one of the most notable new cast members on Dutton Ranch, and to say that her role is dynamic is putting it lightly.

After all, consider what we know at this point about her character Beulah Jackson, starting with the fact that she owns the highly successful 10 Petal Ranch in South Texas. She controls much of the local business, and also made sure that Beth and Rip would not be able to slaughter their beef through her. She’s someone who clearly loves power, but is in more trouble than she realizes at present. After all, Rip discovered the body of Wes on his property, and we know the guy was murdered at the hand of her own son in Rob-Will.

So where is the story going to go for these characters moving forward? Speaking to Variety, here is some of what Bening had to say on the subject:

I think the journey is one of increasing desperation, to tell you the truth. She’s trying to hold everything together: the family, the well-being of her children and her granddaughter, her relationship with Everett. The journey is one of trying to hold together something that is falling apart. Her level of vulnerability and desperation increases as the story goes on.

What is her relationship with Everett? That is another thing we are left to wonder, as the two seem to have some sort of history with each other. The premiere serves as a foundation for her as a foil, but we do tend to think that the layers are going to unravel more and more for Beulah over time. We certainly do not imagine that this is going to be a quick process and beyond that, we also do not want it to be.
