‘So You Think You Can Dance’ rankings: Makenzie Dustman, Malece Miller top women

SYTYCDOver the weekend, we presented our take on the top 9 male “So You Think You Can Dance” performers moving into the performance show episode on Tuesday night; and now, we’re back for our take on some of the ladies. This is a pretty good crop of women that the show has assembled this year, but as with any other group, there are questions about whether or not some are too similar to others, or if there individual partners will help or hurt them.

All we can do for now is play judge based on everything that we have seen, which includes performance quality, perceived support, and the sort of airtime and edit that you need to win this show.

9. Alexis Juliano – The entire group is really strong this season, so it should say something that Alexis is ranked at the bottom here despite a very good routine last week. It’s just that her first performance with Nico Greetham was still a stumble.

8. Hayley Erbert – We didn’t love the first performance that she did in the live rounds, but that steamy routine with Curtis Holland definitely has her lasting for this week.

7. Mariah Spears – Even though Mariah was in the bottom last week, we think that her solo was great to show viewers this season what she can really do; plus, her emotional routine with Carlos Garland was a standout of last week’s show.

6. Jasmine Mason – She doesn’t have the most memorable partner ever in Alan Bersten, but the quality of their most-recent performance together has to be strongly considered here.

5. Amy Yakima – An extremely strong dancer based on everything that we’ve seen, and having an interesting partner like Fik-Shun helps. Our only fear is that there are so many other contemporary dancers this season who are also strong.

4. Jasmine Harper – She and Aaron Turner have had a pair of super-cool routines early on in the competition, and they stand out visually, creatively, and in terms of chemistry. This is huge for going deep in the competition.

3. Jenna Johnson – Jenna’s biggest weakness thus far is a lack of screen time. If she ever manages to last for another week or two, you better watch out: She will really start to dominate this competition.

2. Malece Miller – In addition to being a great dancer, Malece has a pair of other things really going for her at the moment: She’s got a ton of airtime this season, and she also looks very different from the other dancers. Whether you have a blue streak in your hair or blond hair, standing out is good when there are so many people.

1. Makenzie Dustman – That robot routine from last week was one of the cooler concepts that the show has put on, and she’s got such a great partner in Paul Karmiryan that we can’t see either one of them going anywhere for a long, long time.
