The Boys season 5 episode 7: Why did Frenchie die?

We knew that coming into The Boys season 5 episode 7, it felt pretty clear that some sort of major character would die. With that, who did we lose? Well, think along the lines of Frenchie. He’s been a part of the show from the beginning and yet, he is now gone. He ultimately sacrificed himself to save all of his teammates, including the woman he loved in Kimiko.
Is this heartbreaking for her? Absolutely, but we also tend to think they both recognized that they could lose their lives for the sake of the grander cause — and they were also okay with that.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, creator Eric Kripke had the following to say when it comes to why a death at this point was needed:
“In the very early stages, we were talking about which member of The Boys needs to go in episode 7 … Then once you start breaking down what you need to happen in episode 8 and how it happens, your options start to get very limited, actually.”
Meanwhile, Tomer Capone had nothing but positive things to say about his experience on the show, even if he did not make it to the series finale:
“It’s been a ride of a lifetime, professionally and personally … So it’s all about what we created together, and I think that’s what resonates with the audience.”
Ultimately, we do think that Kimiko does still have a massive role to play in the end of the series, especially since the Boys are still working to figure out the right way in order to stop Homelander. It is not going to be easy and beyond that, there is also no guarantee it will even work.
