The Comeback season 4: Why isn’t it happening at HBO?

With tonight serving as the series finale for The Comeback over at HBO, it makes sense to wonder a little bit more about the future. Why did this have to be the end?

Well, the first thing to note here is honestly rather simple, and that is the rather simple fact that star Lisa Kudrow wanted this to be the wrap-up point for the show, at least for the time being. You never know when there could be a chance to come back for more, but it does not appear to be happening anytime soon.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, the Friends alum noted why she wanted to conclude the show at this point and not down the road:

“We need to say ‘third and final’ … I don’t know if I’ll want to do it again in 10 years, so let’s be done, that way no one is asking what’s next or whether we will even want to do more.

“The most respectful thing we can do for the audience and for the character is make it a three-part story. It’s a trilogy, and this is the end.”

Ultimately, we do have to respect a show and a star for recognizing when it is right to walk away, even if it is hard — but the thing with Kudrow in particular is that she has the ability to be choosy about what she wants to do with her career moving forward. What we’ve loved about her career in general is that she’s always taken on different and unique challenges — and personally, we’d love for her to stay in the HBO family to a certain extent. Doesn’t it make sense that she eventually plays some sort of part within the greater The White Lotus universe?

Would you watch The Comeback season 4 if it ever does happen at HBO?
