Next week, PBS is poised to bring The Forsytes season 1 episode 4 in your direction — so what all can we say about it now?

Well, to the surprise of most likely very few, the primary impetus for this story is going to be characters making key decisions. Take Jo, who has seemingly figured out what he wants to do with his future … or has he? It is one thing to make a choice; it is another to stick to it. When it comes to him and his family, it is a bit of an ongoing thing. As for what Irene and Soames are going to do, let’s just say that is a tad different.

One thing that is certainly worth remembering at this point is the oh-so-simple fact that this like so many other British drama series, this is not one with an altogether long run on television. After all, after tonight we are officially at the halfway point of it! The overall implication here is that we are going to see things only ramp up in terms of drama and tension from here.

As an aside, we do wish that PBS is sharing more than they are about upcoming episodes in advance. This is a costume drama that has plenty of appeal, but we tend to think that you really have to push some of that if you are looking to get some of the viewers who love Miss Scarlet, All Creatures Great and Small, Downtown Abbey, or many of the other series in this sort of vein we have seen over the years.
