The Pitt season 2 spoilers: More on Jack Abbot return!

While HBO Max is being relatively cagey regarding the end of The Pitt season 2, we are eager to at least know one thing: Shawn Hatosy will be back as Jack Abbot. It obviously makes an element of sense given that the actor won an Emmy for the role in season 1, and you should want to use him in whatever capacity you can.
Earlier this season, we saw the character return in a surprising spot as a SWAT medic, and it is certainly the sort of thing that raises big questions. Given the mental state he was in last season, is it really wise for him to take that dangerous of a decision. Yet, at the same time, it is something that could help him … at least to a certain extent.

Speaking in a new interview with Today.com (one that also confirms his upcoming return), Hatosy offered up a reasonable sense of where his character is at personally:
I believe Abbot is in process of doing the work. You know? I imagine he had a conversation with his therapist — which he’s been trying to get Robby to talk to, as we learned at the end of Season 1 — and the therapist said, ‘You need a hobby. You need go play golf, go play pickleball or something.’ And he from that decided that being a SWAT medic was appropriate. He believes he’s in process doing the work. But in many ways, it’s a death wish…
Is this a sign that there is more trouble coming Abbot’s way? We may not want that, but it is also easy to acknowledge why that could happen. This is a difficult job, and it is also one that is rather tricky to cope with. We do think Abbot may be handling it better than Robby at this point, but it is hard to note just how long it will last.
