Just in case you needed another reason to be excited for Task season 2, here it is: The arrival of Mahershala Ali as a part of the cast!

According to a report from Deadline, the True Detective season 3 alum is going to be joining Mark Ruffalo for the upcoming second chapter, playing the part of Eddie Barnes, described as “a seasoned and well-respected DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team comes into conflict with Tom’s unit.”

It feels from our vantage point that heading into season 2, Task knew that it would need a compelling co-lead to match what they brought to the table in season 1 — but at the same time, also someone who was totally different. Having the character be a DEA agent this around could be useful just from the vantage point of seeing separate groups come into conflict with one another … but for what reason?

Given that season 1 could have easily just been done and dusted as a limited series, we tend to think that for HBO to bring it back, they have to be really confident that we are going to be giving us some great stuff and sooner rather than later. Let’s just cross our fingers here and hope that the story will live up to the hype as much as it can.

So far, the only other major thing we know at present is that Pennsylvania will continue to be the primary filming location for the show — which is important, given that the central idea here should be trying to make the overall story feel as polished as possible.
