Call the Midwife season 16 premiere date: The best-case scenario

As so many out there are aware at the moment, a Call the Midwife season 16 is absolutely going to happen over at BBC One. With that, all attention gets shifted over to the following all-important question: When will it actually premiere?

Well, for the time being, let’s just say that this is where some of the mystery lies at this point. The BBC has already confirmed that late this year, the prequel series is going to air — and our general feeling is that it will take over the Christmas-to-January pipeline that the original has held for so many years. We will have to wait and see if that show becomes a longstanding institution or just a one-off; the only thing that we can say for certain is that following it will be some sort of feature film set following season 15. After that, season 16 could be incoming.

Because of the timeline that we’ve thrown out here already, it is really hard to imagine a scenario in which season 16 arrives before we get around to some point in 2028. That is a long wait but at the same time, it may be useful for writer Heidi Thomas and the entire team to have some sort of reset. After that, they may be able to view things with a fresher set of eyes.

We do not want to view season 16 as some sort of entirely new project but at the same time, it des feel like there are going to be some fundamental changes to the story. Some of that will begin with shifting to a community hospital or somewhere else as a main setting. We may also certainly get new characters.
