Survivor 50 spoilers: Prepare for old and new twists?

Can you believe that the arrival of Survivor 50 is just one week away? It is still a crazy thing to think about in so many ways. The CBS show has hyped up this season for basically a solid year and now, we’re finally about to see it all play out.

One thing that is abundantly clear at this point entering the season is that you are going to see twists in a number of different forms. Some may have been voted on by the fans, but then there are some unexpected or even nostalgic elements. We tend to think that ultimately, the whole goal is to keep everyone on their toes.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, co-executive producer Jimmy Quigley explained how to incorporate new and old elements into the game:

“I think it’s a marriage of both … Season 50 is a celebration of the legacy of the show, so how do you mine that while also bringing something new to it too, because it’s not a greatest hits album. This is a new album. But you want to hear some of those same music notes that you’re familiar with, that you love about that music. But it’s not a cover, and we’re not just playing the hits. You’re giving something new for people to enjoy.”

Our general feeling is that this is the right move, though our concern for the season remains simply this: Are there going to be perhaps too many twists? Is that something to be worried about at this point? This was something we struggled with at times during Winners at War, as the Fire Tokens introduced this other element that you had to keep track of — and to some extent, it made things confusing for more casual viewers.
