‘Downton Abbey’ season 4: Elizabeth McGovern on performing with Michelle Dockery
Who knew that we would see such a musical connection between some of the stars of “Downton Abbey“? We know that there is clearly some chemistry between the stars as they work together onscreen, but it also is starting to look like that is bleeding into what they do away from the cameras. Take, for example, the news that Michelle Dockery is going to be providing vocals on the upcoming Sadie & the Hotheads album from her co-star Elizabeth McGovern.
Speaking in a new interview with the Oxford Times, McGovern explained a bit about what sort of history the two have singing together while on the show’s famous set, and also how that transitions into music:
“There were the days when we would always run back to my trailer to hike up our skirts and play songs … We don’t do so much of that now — it’s difficult because in the last season we weren’t thrown together in scenes as much as we were, so we sort of got out of the habit of it.”
One of the real joys about taking part in a show described as this sort of global phenomenon is that it does produce so many different opportunities to go out and do other things. For McGovern, this means allowing herself chances to expand her musical palette, and for Dockery it gives her a chance to branch out literally into everything from film and music. Luckily, it does not appear as though either of these pursuits are going to take her away from what she loves to do the most at present.
