‘So You Think You Can Dance’: Nigel Lythgoe confirms format tweak after criticism
Well, you cannot say anymore that “So You Think You Can Dance” ignores the plight of some of its devoted fans. Following being the recipient of great criticism over the change in their live results, which forced the eliminated contestants to learn their fate and then go dance on the show, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has decided instead to turn things around, and reverse them back to the way in which they were in the past.
Before we get too deep into just what this will mean as a whole in the context of the show, check out what Lythgoe wrote in a post on his Twitter account on the subject:
“We’re taking your advice by revealing America’s vote in the beginning and judging at the end. I hope it will inspire the bottom 4? Thank you”
So how will this work on the show now? The simple answer is that at the start of the show, Cat Deeley will announce the six dancers that are in danger of being eliminated on the show, and from there, two of them will be saved. The bottom four will then have to perform the entire show with the fear in them that they could be going home, and Nigel will announce the result at the very end of the program.
We understand for the sake of tension why this is being changed back, and it does also allow for an opportunity for the contestants to actually fight to save themselves in the game. We will still stand by our previous comments, though, that Carlos Garland and Mariah Spears had an incredible moment on the show this past week, and one of the reasons why was that they knew it would be their final dance of the competition together. We don’t know if this same moment would have happened otherwise.
