‘The Walking Dead’ season 4: More details on this year’s awesome escape

The Walking DeadWhen it comes to awesome ways to combine zombies and Comic-Con together, we still cannot possibly think of anything better than what the folks over at AMC are doing in conjunction with “The Walking Dead,” Robert Kirkman’s Skybound, and Ruckus Sports at the San Diego convention later this month in order to make everyone’s dream of being chased by ravenous zombies seeking human flesh into a reality. It’s grotesque, hilarious, and really, something that we believe that every zombie enthusiast should aspire to do at some point in their lives.

On July 19 and 20 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Pacific time, the San Diego Padres’ home of Petco Park is going to be turned into a complete infestation of angry walkers, and after signing up for this event (called the Walking Dead Escape), you can go through an obstacle course where the goal is to make it out before getting defeated by people wearing elaborate zombie makeup. These people are not going to rip open your flesh and you are instructed of course not to beat them over the head with a baseball bat.

This event was first held at the event last year, but not with the show actually attached and it’s of course becoming bigger this time around. This is why the show staged a zombie flash mob of sorts at a Padres game a little earlier in the year. In a statement, the event’s founder Liam Brenner explained why he wanted to bring this event back yet again, and this time with the network officially on board:

“After overwhelming positive feedback from those who experienced ‘The Walking Dead Escape: San Diego’ last summer, we wanted to bring our fans an even bigger and better experience for 2013. As promised, we will be upping the ante as we bring on board celebrated and renowned new partner, AMC … With AMC’s creative prowess, we are confident that this year’s ‘Escape’ will be the most action-packed and thrilling event yet. We know fan expectations are high and hope to deliver beyond their wildest imaginations.”

Sound awesome? Let’s just hope you’re in good shape, since zombies can become somewhat overwhelming.
