As we get prepared to see A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 2 on HBO this weekend, we know a lot will be said about one thing: Its run time. We recognize that because this is a show set in the same world of House of the Dragon, there may be this expectation that we are going to get some hour-long epics here week in and week out.

However, just like this show is doing something very different from the rest of the Game of Thrones world when it comes to its tone, it is doing the same with its run time. The premiere was just over 40 episodes and moving forward, we are going to keep seeing shorter run times as well.

For example, we can go ahead and say that Sunday’s installment “Hard Salt Beef” is only set to run for 36 minutes. The thing that is important to remember here is that these are a faithful take on the George R.R. Martin source material, and the tales of Dunk and Egg are just novellas compared to A Song of Ice and Fire. They aren’t going to last for that long, and this is only a six-episode show. In the end, clearly nobody wanted to just stuff these full of filler and in that way, we both understand and respect it.

Now if you haven’t heard much about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 2 yet, take a look at the synopsis below:

Dunk appeals to various lords in order to gain entrance into the tournament…but Egg advises him to hold onto his pride. When the Targaryens arrive at Ashford, Dunk seizes his moment with Prince Baelor.
