Next week on ABC, you are going to have a chance to see The Rookie season 8 episode 3 play out, a story that is titled “The Red Place.” What more can we say about it now?
Well, the first order of business here is just noting that this is where the Nathan Fillion series should settle a little bit back into its natural rhythm. We have already seen some of the characters in Prague, just as we’re also seeing them deal with a Presidential crisis in some ways tonight. Moving forward, it seems as though we’re going to have a lot of individual stories that showcase various partnerships — mixed of course with something else person at the same time. This is a series that has long done a good job balancing out various stories, and we hardly think that this is about to change.

Is the series as popular as it has always been? There is a certain element of the jury still being out here, as we are only one episode into the run and there is still a lot of time in which things could change. Yet, at the same time, we tend to think that numbers early on serve as a great test and a starting-off point! What we can tell you right now is that the season 8 premiere, while down versus last season’s first episode, did post better viewership than the live+same-day average for season 7. That is an encouraging sign, and it makes us all the more optimistic that there could be a lot of life in the story yet.
