Is Spence Moore II, Alex Macnicoll leaving Brilliant Minds?

After last night’s new episode of Brilliant Minds on NBC, are we saying goodbye to Alex Macnicoll and then also Spencer Moore II? There are reasons to worry — after all, both of their characters are leaving the hospital!

Now, we are pretty surprised about the idea that both of these exits happened within a single episode, and for entirely different reasons. For Moore’s character of Dr. Jacob Nash, this meant accepting a position in Texas, one that allows him to be more in touch with his roots and to take on something that he feels is incredibly important to him. Meanwhile, for Macnicoll’s Dr. Van Markus, the decision was far more sad, as he needed to step away after what unfolded regarding his ex-wife.

So are these characters really gone for good? It does feel like they at least need to be gone for a little while, if for no other reason than paying off what we’ve just seen. Speaking to TVLine, here is at least some of what executive producer Michael Grassi had to say on the subject:

“What I’ll say is: I love Van and Jacob. I love their characters, but I also love Alex [Macnicoll] and Spence [Moore II] so much … They’ve been with us from the beginning of ‘Brilliant Minds,’ and I’m their Number 1 fan … Similar to what Wolf says in that scene in his office at the end of the episode — he says ‘My door is always open’ — and my hope is that they’re very much still in our world, and this is not the last we’ll see Van or Jacob on ‘Brilliant Minds.'”

For now, everything moves forward in the hospital — and we’re sure that this means a number of new challenges for Dr. Wolf and the rest of the team to take on.
