‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Nina Dobrev and Katherine scoop!
Usually when you hear the words “Nina Dobrev” and “Vampire Diaries” pushed together within the same sentence, it is assumed that the subject of conversation is going to be none other than Elena Gilbert, the young girl-turned vampire at the center of the show. So when it’s Katherine instead, that’s something worth getting a little excited about. We don’t hear as much about the centuries old vampire-turned human, and she may be in a more interesting position right now than anyone else on the show.
As for why, that answer should be as simple as why so many ladies like Ian Somerhalder: Her story is shocking, and she is in many ways the last person that you would have ever expected to see transformed into a human. However, don’t necessarily think that this change will equal a guaranteed personality shift for the Katherine character. Speaking to MTV News on the set of her new movie “Let’s Be Cops,” Dobrev claims that she would be surprised if you saw Katherine use anything other than the same survival traits that she has to stay alive this long:
“I don’t know that Katherine will change very much. She is who she is at her core. She’s a human now, no longer a vampire, but she still has the same personality and the same traits, and she’ll still be as conniving and crazy and manipulative as she always was. But she won’t have all the perks of being a vampire to help her.”
Ultimately, you could see a Katherine that is even more manipulative and focused than ever before, given that she will not have as many tools at her disposal as she once did to help her out. The character may need to be resourceful in order to get what she wants, and for some other characters that are on the show right now, this could spell trouble if she starts to become truly creative.
What sort of Katherine do you expect to see on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5: One that tries to manipulate behind the scenes, or a human who is not afraid to stand out in public and flex what muscle she still has (i.e.) flirting to get what she wants?
