Pluribus season 2: EP on the Joined – signal discovery

As we get ourselves prepared to see a Pluribus season 2 on Apple TV, of course we are curious regarding a number of things. Take, for starters, how much Manousos has really learned about the Joined through his signal research.
At one point in the season 1 finale, we saw the guy try to get through to one of them using a frequency that he had researched through much of his time in Paraguay. It seemed like it was at least having an impact on them, but his process was interrupted before it could be played out.

Now, there is one thing that we should go ahead and confirm here: Manousos was not using the same signal that caused the Joining in the first place. This was confirmed by creator / executive producer Vince Gilligan in The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, fellow EP Gordon Smith added that there is still a major takeaway from some of what Manousos tried to accomplish:
… An experiment within the scientific method, generally, moves through failure, and it keeps moving through failure. You learn more from saying, “That’s not right. It did not stop them from being joined, but I did learn something. So what did I learn?” What he learned and what he can do with it is hopefully going to be brought out in season two.
We do think that Pluribus is going to be eager to explore some of the mythology around the Joining further but at the same time, not get too bogged down in the science-fiction of it all. This is, after all, a show about the human condition first and foremost. We aren’t sure there will be a real effort to change that.
