‘So You Think You Can Dance’ interview: Brittany Cherry and Carlos Garland
The first elimination from the “So You Think You Can Dance” top 20 is always one of the worst, mostly because you never really get an opportunity to show America what you can do before going out the door. This week, it was even more tragic once you consider that Brittany Cherry and Carlos Garland found out their fate before they even had a chance to dance, and then had to go out and perform, anyway.
So how were they able to deal with this sort of disappointment? We talked to them both in a conference call today, and for Brittany it was each about realizing that their job and their future is much more important than just not being able to keep it together in the competition:
“It was definitely difficult to pull it all together and perform after we were eliminated. But that’s the name of the game, and that’s what we do: We’re dancers, and no matter the circumstances, the show must go on. To end the show on a note that was celebrating and being able to dance with our partners, that just made it so much better.”
As for Carlos, he explained that he hoped viewers out there would see what happened on the show as a sign that they can take something from staying strong despite difficult circumstances:
“It’s definitely a message to send to other dancers. Like Brittany said, the show must go on, and there is a greater dance at hand. So you pull your emotions together, and then do what you need [to do].”
Can we just say that these two quotes alone symbolize what makes this show so much stronger than many others out there? Some singing competition stars would have played the “I’m a star” card, or spent so much time in tears that they were not able to pull off a great performance not thinking of the future.
