For those who did not hear the news earlier this week, IT: Welcome to Derry season 1 episode 2 will be arriving a little bit earlier than expected. How much so? Think on Friday, in honor of Halloween. There is a lot that the prequel will need to address but front and center, the most important thing may be the status of some of the kids.

After all, did the show really kill Teddy, Phil, and Susie in that movie theater? A part of us wonders if we’ve been tricked, but the producers are talking as though it has happened — and beyond just that, they want to separate the story now from what we saw with the Losers’ Club in the films.

Speaking to TV Guide about what we’ve seen so far, executive producer Jason Fuchs notes that it “sets you off on an amazing journey. It also throws you as an audience into the point of view of our characters. You know, the group of characters at the heart of this journey have not seen IT 1, they haven’t seen IT 2. They don’t have the benefit of reading the book. They’re discovering the rules all for themselves. They’re disoriented themselves. And so on an experiential level, it was a stroke of genius from [fellow showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, because now you’re really in their perspective.”

Because of where we are with this show being a prequel, there may be a general sense that anything can happen — except, of course, for the final demise of Pennywise. At the same time, can there still be some unexpected ways in which if could be used? Seeing that process play out here may be a big part of the fun.
