‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Big-time Jack Ross scoop!

Let’s start off this latest “Downton Abbey” season 4 article with a massive warning: There are spoilers ahead! If you want to avoid anything related to a possible storyline, our suggestion is to stop reading now.

Ever since it was first reported that Gary Carr was joining the show as the first black character, a jazz musician by the name of Jack Ross, there were inevitably countless questions that came up. What sort of role would he play, and would it be important to all of the main characters, or just some of them? What we can tell you now, without giving everything away, is this: He will have an interesting relationship with one of the younger female cast members on the show, and it is definitely the sort of progressive storyline that will upset the balance of what we would think of as the traditional beliefs that Robert and some of the other characters have expressed. We’re excited to see how it plays out, especially given we know that Carr only recently finished filming his arc on the show.

Carr is just one of many new cast members that is coming on board the show this year, as he will be joined by an assortment of actors, actresses, and even an opera singer at one point. The big-name new arrival comes via Paul Giamatti, and he is going to join the show along with Shirley MacLaine, who is coming back for the second time.
