AMC’s ‘The Killing’ season 3, episode 6 review: Is Pastor Mike the new Mills?
It’s about time that this central mystery on AMC’s “The Killing” started to find itself getting a little bit more complicated. Over much of the past several days, we have had a suspect list related to this show with just one name on it: Mills. You may as well have written it in gigantic lettering at the top of the page. There was no one else that had all of the connections, and there was that phone of Kallie’s that her mother discovered.
However, it is fair to say now that the game has changed somewhat from what it used to be. Mills is definitely very much still a suspect as evidenced by the fact that he is out on the loose, and is clearly hiding from being caught. At the same time, the super-creepy Pastor Mike does have quite a habit of “helping” young girls, and his meeting at the tail end of this episode really started to bring on some seriously creepy vibes.
While Linden and Holder start to make progress here, “Eminent Domain” was an episode that actually had its best moment come from a supporting character: Ray Seward. If you have been a frequent reader of this site as of late, you know already that we have found the Seward character to at times be somewhat pointless and overwrought. However, that was not the case during this episode. He was instead valuable when it comes to his conversation with Linden over Mills, and gave us the night’s best moment as he accused the detective of learning of his innocence a mere 12 days before he was going to die in prison for a crime he did not commit.
As for the Bullet story, it’s gritty, but what else is there really? We feel like it is occasionally disconnected from the rest of the show, and when you’re dealing with a mystery to solve, the side stories here are not always 120% necessary.
There are many times that we wish that “The Killing” was a little less one-note, but this is just the kind of show that it is. Some people obviously love it, but some people not so much. We were fascinated by the episode, but hope that there is going to be a major momentum shift soon beyond just a few steps in the right direction.

A source of mine who is very trustworthy (he told me who Rosie Larson’s killer was at the beginning of season 2) has sworn me to secrecy regarding who the killer is in season 3. It’s tough not to spill the beans because I really want to discuss it.
Anyway, it’s not Mills – he’s just a red herring like Mayor Richmond was in seasons 1 and 2. It also isn’t the Pastor at the halfway house. Seriously, it’s way too early for them to actually start focusing on the killer just yet.
If you want to speculate, just ask yourself, who has the power to make Seward willingly accept the death penalty AND disavow his son (and yes, his wife’s killer is THE killer…)?
