Countdown season 2: Show EP hopeful for renewal

As we start to get into the home stretch of Countdown season 1 over at Prime Video, that does raise questions regarding a season 2. Are we going to see more on Prime Video at some point?
Well, we personally have been around the world of television long enough to know that learning about streaming ratings is a little bit tricky. Viewership is not released publicly and yet here, there are some things that it brings to the table. First and foremost, you have a legitimate marquee star here in Jensen Ackles. Also, we do think it benefits the Amazon-owned company to have a show like this with a ton of episodes that can roll out slowly over time. (Sure, 13 may not feel like a lot for network TV, but most streaming shows cap at around 10.)

Speaking to TV Insider, executive producer Derek Haas (previously of Chicago Fire) indicated that he is rather optimistic about where things stand:
“I’m feeling good. I haven’t done streaming before, so kind of all of the analytics are new. It’s different from when I was doing network and you knew the next morning, like, oh, this is doing great, whatever … But I’m excited because it feels like we continue to pick up viewers every week and so that gets me all excited.”
To us personally, we tend to think the biggest concern over the future of Countdown is story-related, given that Ackles’ character of Mark has a brain tumor that could conceivably kill him at any moment. Is there any way at all to get around that? If this is one of those shows that is meant to have a longer run on the air, you have to imagine that at some point, this is an idea that is going to need to be addressed.
