Resident Alien canceled; season 4 will be the last at Syfy

For everyone out there who has been enjoying Resident Alien season 4, unfortunately we do come bearing unfortunate news.

Today, it was officially confirmed that the Syfy / USA series are going to be coming to a close at the end of the season. This move almost happened after season 3, but a last-minute reprieve allowed Alan Tudyk and the rest of the cast to continue forward with one more chapter of the story.

If there is any silver lining that we can present here, it is the rather-simple fact that the entire team behind Resident Alien figured out in advance that season 4 would likely be the end. With that, there will be an element of closure. Speaking to TV Insider, show creator Chris Sheridan noted that there are plans for a proper conclusion:

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season … Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending … I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.”

Of course, it would be wonderful to see more of the journey beyond this — but considering just how many Syfy shows face an abrupt cancellation altogether, we’re glad that we are going to at least have some closure here. Four seasons is also a solid run for any cable series in 2025 — while it would be great to imagine that another network or streaming service would save it for a season 5, that feels unlikable. At this point in the entertainment business, people seem to be more inclined to cut content than they are picking up things that carry with them a price tag.
