‘Catfish’ season 2 returns solid; ties ‘Rizzoli & Isles’ premiere
The following news proves one thing: Any publicity is good publicity when you’re a show on MTV, and TNT skews older than most (though we figure that you already knew that).
#1 for the night on cable last night was a tie in the ratings, as both the “Catfish” premiere and “Rizzoli & Isles” making its big return each drummed up a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It should be noted that “Catfish” did so with less than half of the TNT’s series 6.6 million viewers, but we’re not altogether sure that it must be jumping up and down, either. Given the show’s massive traction on Twitter last night, we almost expected something close to a 2.0. Did Manti Te’o actually cause the hype around this show to dissipate as people grew tired of hearing about it? Hm…
One major loser from Tuesday night has to be the “A” hunters over at “Pretty Little Liars,” who drew a surprisingly-low 0.9 rating for a show that is considered to be their biggest hit. Could ABC Family’s awful strategy of hanging shows out to dry finally be hurting them? These are the same people who made “Make It Or Break It” fans cry by not giving it a proper ending, and are currently doing the same thing with “Bunheads” fans by making them sit around until they see how some of the newer shows do before decided whether or not to renew it. Fans of “Bunheads” can probably rejoice that “Twisted’s” numbers were so poor that they weren’t even a part of the TVbythenumbers‘ top 100 shows of the night. Ouch.
