‘The Originals’ spoilers: Daniel Gillies expects more ‘adult’ show vs. ‘Vampire Diaries’

The Originals“The Originals” has yet to air a single episode save for the pilot that aired in the spring, and save for a few jaw-hits-the-ground shockers, there really is not that much that is known about the early episodes. Will it have violence? Sure. Will it have blood? Definitely? Will someone take their shirt off? You can bet on it. But you are also going to see a series that needs to be darker than “The Vampire Diaries” when you consider all of the forces that are involved here. This is not some show about a new vampire, or a young girl coming of age in the most terrible way imaginable.

Want more? Daniel Gillies explains his thoughts in a way that only Daniel Gillies can to TVRage: In a smart and eloquent manner. When you play a character like Elijah, you bring a certain air of dignity to almost everything that you do:

“I think it’s going to be a lot more about family, the writing always returns to family. The bonds and, dare I say it, sometimes the manacles of family. I think that it’s going to be a little darker. I think it’s going to be a little bit more adult. I mean [Joseph Morgan, who plays Klaus] and I are a bit older than the others. Well actually, [Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon] is the same age as us. But we’re a little older. I think that carries with it its own kind of energy and naturally you have to write for that.”

Personally, the idea of seeing Gillies’ character with a new love interest is particularly enticing, mostly because he has to do a little better than Katherine from here on out when it comes to people who are questionably evil. Plus, let’s be honest: He has to have some of the best pick-up lines ever with all of this practice, right?

For those of you who want to know more on “The Vampire Diaries,” do not worry: We are not going to leave you hanging.
