‘Doctor Who’ season 8: ‘James Bond,’ ‘Homeland’ actors, and more 12th Doctor denials
We begin here with a denial from a man famous for playing a different sort of whiz in Q from the James Bond movies: Ben Whishaw. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he bristled about the idea of being two iconic characters at the same time:
“It’s not going to be me. But I don’t mind – I don’t think you can be Q and Doctor Who. It would be a bit wrong.”
For whatever reason, another actor from the Bond universe in Rory Kinnear is relentlessly rumored to be a favorite, even though he has already said months ago that this is not a gig that he is interested in taking.
Meanwhile, “Homeland” alum David Harewood continues to say that he would love the opportunity to play the part, even though he is well aware that the gig would likely never come his way given his past association with the show. Check out what he had to say, per Entertainment Weekly:
“It’s only rumors but it’s amazing to be attached to such an iconic role. It would be extraordinary if the BBC were to make me the first black Doctor Who, it would be extraordinary. But I’m almost scared to make any comment whatsoever.”
There are still a number of rumored names out there who have not commented one way or another. The 12th Doctor will take over for Matt Smith at the start of season 8, and following the upcoming Christmas special.
