Considering all of the people who are currently saying that they are probably not going to be the 12th Doctor on “Doctor Who,” you would almost start to assume that this role is not nearly as coveted as it actually is. The real truth of the matter is that the only people who are talking about it are of the folks who are either not interest or have a no chance at landing the role; therefore, the interested parties are keeping their mouths shut until August or September, when the announcement is probably going to be made.
We begin here with a denial from a man famous for playing a different sort of whiz in Q from the James Bond movies: Ben Whishaw. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he bristled about the idea of being two iconic characters at the same time:
“It’s not going to be me. But I don’t mind – I don’t think you can be Q and Doctor Who. It would be a bit wrong.”
For whatever reason, another actor from the Bond universe in Rory Kinnear is relentlessly rumored to be a favorite, even though he has already said months ago that this is not a gig that he is interested in taking.
Meanwhile, “Homeland” alum David Harewood continues to say that he would love the opportunity to play the part, even though he is well aware that the gig would likely never come his way given his past association with the show. Check out what he had to say, per Entertainment Weekly:
“It’s only rumors but it’s amazing to be attached to such an iconic role. It would be extraordinary if the BBC were to make me the first black Doctor Who, it would be extraordinary. But I’m almost scared to make any comment whatsoever.”
There are still a number of rumored names out there who have not commented one way or another. If you want to read some of the fan campaigns concerning Rupert Grint, our advice is to head on over to the link here. The 12th Doctor will take over for Matt Smith at the start of season 8, and following the upcoming Christmas special.
