‘Mad Men’ season 6 finale ratings: Jon Hamm and company have reason to smile
For those of you who have sat around all spring and bashed “Mad Men” for having what may be its worst season yet, it appears as though all of you still made a decision to watch the finale. The numbers have come in for Sunday night’s season 6 finale, and they find the show putting up some of its best totals to date for the end of a season.
Overall, the show drew 2.7 million viewers watching live, and almost half of which were within the 25-54 demographic that the show really aims for more so than the 18-49. (At least this is what they put out, given that it makes the releases a little more PR-friendly.) While these numbers pale in comparison to another AMC series in “The Walking Dead,” it is always impressive when any show adds viewers in its sixth season. (“Mad Men” also picks up nearly the same amount of viewers during the next seven days in repeat viewing via DVRs.)
In a statement about the news, AMC’s president Charlie Collier of course had nothing put positive things to say:
“There is nothing else on television like ‘Mad Men,’ and for the series in its sixth season to deliver the highest-rated finale ever – and an episode that critics and fans have already declared an instant classic – is a testament to everyone who brings this world to life … Matthew Weiner and his cast and crew have created something that continues to occupy a unique and very special place, on television and across the broader cultural landscape, and we are so proud to be a part of it.”
Oh, and “Mad Men” continues to be television’s most-upscale drama, meaning that the people who watch it are very, very rich. Think Don Draper, except with less drinking at work.
