‘The Bachelorette’ spoilers: New promo uses Desiree Hartsock, ‘The Voice’ ending

Desiree HartsockWell, ABC is getting creative when it comes to promoting “The Bachelorette’s” lowest-rated season to date … by reminding everyone that there is nothing better to watch now that “The Voice” is over. We’ve never been a fan of this sort of promotion, mostly because it implies that viewers were watching something that is more popular or superior than your own product. Nonetheless, the folks over at the network have chosen to use the strategy anyway.

The first thing that makes this promo slightly unintentionally-funny comes within the opening narration: “Now that ‘The Voice’ is finally over…”. It resonates a major sense of relief from the network that they don’t have to put up with the NBC singing show anymore, and almost suggests that people who were watching the show must have been bored with it by the end. (With the predictable country-music winner, we’re not surprised at all.)

From here, the show does smartly take a minute to actually speed through everything that has happened so far this season, which includes devastating moments, arguments, and romantic dates that actually suggest that Desiree Hartsock has a chance at finding love at the end of this.

Do we expect a bump on “The Bachelorette” ratings tomorrow? Sure, but not as much as ABC is hoping for. As we wrote about in our feature article here, “The Voice” is not the only reason that the show is down, and you can blame everything from bad product placement to a weak crop of guys to even Desiree not being the most exciting lead that the show has ever had.

What do you think about this promo, and about ABC trying to actually promote “The Bachelorette” by reminding you of “The Voice” dominating the airwaves? If you want to see where we’ve ranked some of Desiree’s big contenders as of this writing, all you have to do is click here.
