‘Mad Men’ season 6, episode 13 preview: Will the finale finally feature John Slattery?
If we were to present a completely honest take on “Mad Men” season 6, there would be one flaw that (at least in our eyes) would be reasonably high on the list: The complete under-reliance of John Slattery’s character of Roger Sterling. Without a doubt, this man is to us one of the most popular faces on the show. Yet, for whatever reason, we’re not seeing nearly as much of him this year as in years past, with there only being two or three episodes that really get inside of his head.
So will that change in the finale? All we can sadly guarantee, at least based on the attached photo here, is that he is going to have some sort of role to explore. What we would like to see (and hope to based on all of the evidence from this season) is a story that places some sort of emphasis on Roger and Joan yet again. He made it clear that he wants more of a role in his child’s life, even though she does not seem to be so willing to bite on it.
But could he convince her to change her mind? It’s possible, especially if she ever finds out somehow who this mysterious “Bob Benson” character really is. For the time being, all she really knows about the guy is that he is a strange fellow who does have an interest in being with her; but little does she know that he’s really a fellow who is making up pretty much his entire life. He’s almost the 1960s equivalent of Mike on “Suits” more so than Don Draper, given that we don’t get the same sort of evidence of him having a messed-up past.
