Who knew that “Project Runway” was going to become somewhat more like “American Idol” with each coming season? We’ve now heard one of the new twists to the Lifetime design competition, and it’s a pretty big change considering that the name of the competition should change to “suck up to Tim Gunn.”
In announcing their new cast this week, the show confirmed that at some point this season, Gunn could opt to give a second chance to a designer who he feels is deserving of a second chance. We’re hoping that this power stays hidden from the contestants all season long, mostly because this is the sort of thing that would clearly change how so many of the contestants would behave around him, and possibly tilt the competition in some unfair ways.
As for who is going to be stopping by this season as a guest judge alongside host Heidi Klum, Zac Posen, and Nina Garcia, it includes Kate Bosworth, Michael Kors, “Girls” star Allison Williams, Kaley Cuoco of “The Big Bang Theory,” Sigourney Weaver, Stacy Keibler, Kelly Osbourne of “Fashion Police,” and “Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson (who has also judged “So You Think You Can Dance,” which is starting to make us feel more and more like he can judge anything).
The crop of designers this year live all over the country, but you have some with interesting stories, including one in Kahindo Mateene who hails from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and one in Alexandria von Bromssen who is from Sweden. We also have a designer named Alexander Pope, which should make all fans of poetry out there do a laugh.
What do you think about Gunn having some more power this season, and do you think that this is a fair way to save a deserving contestant who may have had an off week? If you want to see some changes to the “Project Runway All-Stars” show, our advice is to head on over to the link here.
