‘The X Factor’ USA season 3: Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell talk Long Island, dancing?
“The X Factor” has spent much of the past few days in Long Island rocking out with some auditions, and we’re actually hearing some very good buzz about them. Not only are the judges all getting along, but they’re having fun, making TV moments, and also keeping the focus on who really matters: The contestants. Are we somewhat worried still about Paulina Rubio? Sure, but mostly because we never watched the Mexican version of “The Voice” and have no real feel as to her personality. But the other three are great, and we’ve already heard that Demi Lovato got Simon Cowell to dance (sort of) during one point in the auditions.
Simon’s also a pretty smart man, and thus in promoting the show at a press conference in Long Island this week, he stressed that one of the biggest advantages that they have right about now is that they are going against the recent “American Idol” fiasco of judges constantly fighting amongst themselves and not putting the focus on the contestants:
“I think these shows have lacked warmth … What makes these shows so different is that they’re totally focused on the contestants.”
It’s weird that Cowell wants us to believe that these singing shows are about the singers only, because what the past year has taught us is that they really are not. Without a panel of judges with good chemistry, and who genuinely are interested in getting along with one another, the whole series falls apart. That is a pretty difficult thing to try and wrap your head around, but it’s the reality of the situation. This is why “The Voice” has held up pretty well, and while the other two singing shows tanked. (Last season on “The X Factor,” Britney Spears’ flat attitude sunk much of the proceedings.)
