NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 2 spoilers: Bryan Fuller on Will vs. Dr. Lecter battle ahead

HannibalGiven everything that transpired on the first season of “Hannibal,” in particular the final minutes of Thursday night’s finale, it is pretty easy to promise one thing coming up and that’s some intense drama. Now that there is suspicion, there can be a spark, and when there’s a spark, there can be fire. See where we are going from here? If Will can manage to free himself, things are going to get fairly crazy, pretty quickly, with this NBC fan favorite.

In teasing some of the road ahead for the show in a chat with TV Guide, Fuller explained a few thoughts as to how Will did emerge victorious in the first real battle of the wits between the two, but also how this was really just setting the stage for some more epic events to transpire in the future:

Hannibal Lecter has won this round, certainly. But one of the exciting things moving forward with Season 2 is that Will has hit rock bottom. One of the great gifts that the universe can give somebody in a tumultuous state of mind is for them to hit rock bottom and be free. Now, Will has nothing to lose, and he will be a very dangerous dance partner for Hannibal Lecter.”

Obviously, those of you who have read the books have a pretty decent idea as to where this story is going, but one of the joys of seeing this story play out  is watching how Fuller’s artistic mind interprets the story and continues to take it in weird and exciting directions. There were moments where this network show had a cable sensibility, and in an age where most dramas on major networks blend together, we attribute this to being a good thing.
