‘So You Think You Can Dance’ season 10: Top 20 shine in first photo

On Tuesday night, “So You Think You Can Dance” named their full top 20 dancers, and the very next day, we had a first photo of the full crew ready to start preparing for their time to shine on the show next week.

What is a little interesting about this show, though, is that we really don’t have that great of a sense as to who is going to be particularly well-equipped to succeed at this stage of the game, and who is not. We haven’t seen enough of the dancers with the show’s brilliantly-choreographed routines, and how they fare in other genres. A ballroom whiz may be just that, but they could fall apart in hip-hop.

What you really have to do when thinking about possible favorites right now are to go based off of things that are easily unique. For example, BluPrint has that interesting hairstyle, and he also has the Dragon House connection that helped Cyrus Spencer go extremely far on the show last season. Meanwhile, Mariah Spears is a young woman who specializes in krumping. These two could have an early edge just based on the fact that they stand out from the crowd, even though there are some more established favorites in here like Amy Yakima and tap-dancer Curtis Holland. It’s hopefully going to be a crop of good dancers this year, and what we are ironically the most excited about is the opportunity to actually watch the show this year without so many stinkin’ interruptions due to everything from the Summer Olympics to the Fourth of July preempting the show.
