NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 1 finale spoilers: Expect a major cliffhanger

Want to know what is coming up on Thursday night’s “Hannibal” finale? The biggest thing that we can tell you is that there will be tears, angst, a jail cell, some incredible imagery (this is a Bryan Fuller show after all), and also something that you will be talking about with all of your fellow Fannibals for the next several months. Cliffhangers are the nature of the television beast, and there are few shows better-suited for one than something so densely-packed or story-based.

While Fuller won’t reveal anything too specific about the finale, he did tell E! News recently about the sort of general themes that will carry through the episode, including some of how the show is planning to stay true to the original Hannibal story:

“Knock wood, the final course [season finale] is incredibly surprising and satisfying … It plays on some of the iconic imagery that we’ve known from the Hannibal Lector movies, and delivers it in a unique way through the characters in this show. And how we subvert expectations and also propel the story forward through to season two is going to be a pretty rich meal in and of itself.”

Overall, Fuller has to feel pretty satisfied about the series as a whole, given that it has received pretty good acclaim from critics, seen a renewal happen despite weaker ratings, and even in spite of having one of his episodes being pulled after it was deemed too controversial for air. He still has delivered a great show, and there is one more episode left to air.
