‘Psych’ season 8 spoilers: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum checks in as 1960s singer
Apparently, the upcoming “Psych” musical episode (airing later this year) will not be the only opportunity in which the show will have in order to try and stretch some of its vocal pipes. There will also be an hour coming during the show’s eighth and possibly final season focusing on music, and an Emmy-winning actress will be on board to play one of the characters.
Sources have confirmed that Loretta Devine, who is perhaps best known recently for her work as Adele Webber on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has been booked to play a part on the fifth episode of the season as Melba Birdson, a backing vocalist for a popular soul legend in the 1960s. She will be a part of an investigation, and share at least one scene with the always-intense Detective Lassiter.
Some of Devine’s other recent credits include arcs on both “The Client List” and the short-lived ABC Family drama “State of Georgia,” and we figure that based on her talent level alone, she will have some other sort of major arc on another show soon.
As for “Psych,” there is still no word yet on when the eighth season will premiere except for at some point next year. One of the other interesting experiments this season is going to be how much the show will be able to use Maggie Lawson, who is starring in the upcoming ABC comedy “Back in the Game,” and could be limited depending on what the shooting schedule is.
