‘Doctor Who’ season 8: ‘Homeland’ alum jokes about casting possibility
Is it possible that we could end up seeing a complete and utter surprise when it comes to the “Doctor Who” casting for season 8? Sure. As a matter of fact, it probably will be. We’ve said time and time again that whoever lands this gig is not going to be crazy enough to scoop the story before it’s official, so expect most of the names whispered to be ones that are completely and totally untrue.
Thankfully, this story is not one of those age-old casting rumors; instead, it’s of a man merely talking about the role, and whether or not he’d actually be interested in it. While speaking on “Loose Women,” “Homeland” alum David Harewood, who has actually been on the series before, joked to “get the BBC on the phone” when asked about the gig. While he doubts that the series would ever look in his direction, he went on to discuss briefly his affection for the part, and how he would struggle to turn it down if asked:
“It would be really difficult to turn down. It’s very exciting. It would be very exciting if the phone rang. I doubt it somehow.”
Harewood is a tremendous actor, but we see him as a little more authoritative and a little less whimsical, which is something that we always want to see from our Doctor characters. We loved him on “Homeland,” and we do hope that he gets another chance to shine on “Doctor Who” in the future.
What do you think: If producers did decide to cast Harewood, do you think that it would be a wise choice? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below!
