‘So You Think You Can Dance’ review: Did Amy Yakima, Mariah Spears make top 20?
On Tuesday night (and against heavy competition), “So You Think You Can Dance” did its part in order to reveal the top 20 in as dramatic a way as possible. Was it that surprising a show? Not really, given that we saw the majority of these placements coming based on the edit. There was one surprising injury, though, and it was nice to see some old favorites (including some who were barely shown this year) finally get their due.
If you want to know more about the entire crop of dancers, stay tuned: We’ll have more news on this group moving forward.
Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall – The crazy-good hip-hop dancer from the auditions.
Mariah Spears – It’s the lady krumper! She hasn’t received much air time at all this season, but she was one of our favorite dating back to last year. That’s how memorable we found her audition.
Emilo “Millie” Dosal – Another great hip-hop dancer that we’ve seen some footage of. (Update: Due to injury, Emilo was forced to withdraw.)
Makenzie Dustman – One of the victims of the “dancing dad” syndrome moves on to the next round.
Jasmine Harper – We admittedly don’t remember her that well, but she is also sticking around for a while.
Tucker Knox – He was lucky to be alive after a car accident, but now he’s in the competition!
Nico Greetham – Another one of our projected favorites is in.
Alexis Juliano and Curtis Holland – Two tap-dancers are in the top 20 this year! That’s always a cause for excitement. Plus, they are joined by another, as Aaron was added due to Emilo’s injury.
Jade Zuberi and Dorian “BluPrint” Hector – Two animators, and both are deemed worthy of lasting a while longer. BluPrint really interests us, given that we haven’t seen anything quite like him before.
Carlos Garland, Hayley Erbot, and Malece Miller – Three more contemporary dancers have made it through what is turning out to be a pretty varied group.
Brittany Cherry, Jenna Johnson, Paul Karmiryan, and Alan Bersten – There’s quite a few ballroom dancers this year, including someone who has actually won a foreign version of the show already.
Jasmine Mason and Amy Yakima – The final two dancers to learn that they were safe, and it was a close call.
