‘Mad Men’ season 6, episode 12 preview: Can Sally Draper be stopped?
On this week’s “Mad Men” … nobody will die. That may seem random, but it’s pretty important when you consider all of the conspiracy theories that have been out there concerning the show for the past several weeks. As a matter of fact, we can go as far as to say for the rest of the season of “Mad Men,” nobody is going to go the way of Lane, or be murdered as Sharon Tate was in real life. (That theory was a fascinating one involving Megan, even if it didn’t end up leading anywhere at all.)
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, creator Matthew Weiner did something he hardly ever does, and confirmed that nobody is going to die this season. He also reiterated that all of the Megan Draper vs. Sharon Tate comparisons were strictly coincidental, and is shaking his head back and forth now that he didn’t realize that people would form that sort of connection. So you can breathe easy if you’re fearing the reaper, but you still have to worry about plenty of other things.
In going specifically back to Sunday night’s “The Quality of Mercy,” the synopsis is pretty effective at telling us nothing:
“The partners cannot agree on a new campaign; Don takes a day off.”
Thanks to getting a synopsis that might as well be a blank sheet of paper, we’re going to have to rely on deductive reasoning. Don’s day off could be tied to the fact that he is desperate to do damage control on Sally Draper, who is the one person right now with the capabilities to ruin everything in his life. (Then again, you could argue that Don has already ruined it himself).
