‘Glee’ season 5 absent from Comic-Con … for now
We were surprised to learn that “How I Met Your Mother” was going to be appearing at Comic-Con this coming year, and now, we’re surprised that there is a pretty substantial omission as of this writing: “Glee.”
In the full announcement that we wrote about earlier in the day, the Fox comedy was not listed as a show that will be making an appearance. However, it’s probably a little too soon to assume for sure that the series will not have a presence in San Diego. “Glee” was absent from the original announcement last year, and it still ended up appearing. We just figure that this show may be sort of a last-minute decision, given that so much of it depends on what Ryan Murphy and company are willing to give away about the show’s upcoming season.
To be honest, and this has no bearing on our opinion of “Glee” as a whole, but we’ve never quite fully understood why a musical about high school was at this convention to begin with. The irony here, though, is that the show probably had its geekiest season ever courtesy of “Dynamic Duets” this past year, and we would have loved to see some of the cast members show up as their superhero alter egos. We also have to be cognizant of the fact that love it or hate it, Comic-Con is really not just about a bunch of comic books anymore. It’s a convention that really recognizes a wide array of television and film, and “Glee” brings in a large audience.
