‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: Executives not concerned with large cast

Game of ThronesIf you thought that production for “Game of Thrones” must have been challenging the first year, it is probably going to pale in comparison to what we are going to see moving forward. Many of these actors (including Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington) have found a great deal of fame thanks to the show, and thus have quite a few opportunities waiting for them. In between scheduling and contract negotiations, which will come up eventually (and which the actors could have some leverage in), we already feel bad for HBO.

However, the network does not seem to be particularly worried about these things just yet. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, network head Michael Lombardo proclaims that his past model of working with large casts makes this sort of negotiation here possible at the end of the day:

“We’ve managed this before with successful shows like The Sopranos … That’s a journey we’re ready for. When there’s great storytelling, actors will continue to want to perform their roles. The challenges here are more in the storytelling.”

As for another issue, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are already starting to think ahead to the possibility that the series could actually catch up with the books someday. We personally believe that by the end of season 5, the show will at least be a sizable way into book 5, at least given the fact that season 4 is a rather difficult book to get through and we’re not sure just how much of it is going to really be used. If George R.R. Martin does not have the next edition of A Song of Ice and Fire released by then, the show may need to take a break so that the books continue to come out before future seasons of the series.

Given the love for “Game of Thrones,” we do imagine that the entire show will get made so long as the ratings stay high. It may just take a little bit of time.

What do you think is the show’s greatest challenge moving forward? If you want to check out some more scoop about the future of two characters in Tywin Lannister and Danaerys Stormborn, all you have to do is click here.
